Thomas R. Nasser, a legacy-leaving Islander, passed away on May 18, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on September 16, 1945, in Newport, Tom grew up in the 5th Ward on Extension Street. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. After his military service, he dedicated 40 years of his life to Raytheon as a Senior Draftsman, where his ingenuity and commitment made a significant impact.
Tom was well-known for his quick wit and sarcasm, bringing joy and laughter to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a passionate fan of the Boston Red Sox with Yaz and Ted Williams being his favorite players. Nothing made him happier than the World Series win in 2004, then of course the World Series titles in 07, 13, and 18 which may have made him an overconfident Red Sox fan as it did many of us. A love that may have been bigger than the Red Sox was HIS Providence College Friars. The Friars were not a seasonal thing; it was a yearlong passion. Having been a season ticket holder since 1972 (when the Providence Civic Center was opened), he could give you any stat on any player or team. His favorite team was arguably the 1972-73 team led by Ernie D, Marvin Barnes and Kevin Stacom. Providence knocked off a tough Maryland team to advance to the NCAA Final Four and suffered a heartbreaking loss to Memphis State when Marvin Barnes was removed from the game due to an ankle injury. Tom believed that with Marvin Barnes, they would have won the NCAA title that year. His season tickets are behind that bench with his son Tommy and now his seat will be occupied by his grandson Max.
Tom's love for his kids and grandchildren was second to none. His time with them was cherished and each had their own special place. From trips to Fenway Park and Pawtucket, to The Friars games at "The Civic Center, The Dunk or The AMP." He loved the family get-togethers whether they were just a simple cookout, a birthday party or an event for one of the grandchildren. Watching any of his grandchildren play whatever sport they were playing was one of his happiest moments.
He loved to travel and enjoyed many trips to New Hampshire. He was an avid bowler, in which he mastered several 300 perfect games. He was a (17) year volunteer for the Aquidneck Island Charity Golf Tournament. A lover of the beach, traveling and photography, Tom enjoyed capturing life's moments, whether at a family event, a vacation or while watching his grandchildren compete in various sports. And we can't forget his love for Elvis Presley and Reba McIntyre.
In a beautiful tribute to his loving wife Christine, Tom made it a tradition to bring her a yellow rose every Saturday morning from Carol at Carlone's Florist, a testament to his enduring love. He and Chris loved their time in New Hampshire, going to concerts (especially at the Warwick Tent), dinners, and 44 years of marriage together.
He takes with him a legacy defined by love and family, leaving behind his devoted wife Christine; his son Tommy Jr and his beloved partner Robin, his son Ronnie, his son Shawn and his wife Lori, his daughter Dawn and her husband Doug, and his daughter in-law Kristina; his cherished grandchildren Britney and her husband Patrick, Aaron, Selena, Hannah, Shay, Max, Connor and Kyle; and great-grandchildren Griffon and Adam. And several nieces and nephews.
All services and burial will be private, according to Tom's wishes. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Tom to Aquidneck Island Charity Golf, 8 Claremont Rd, Barrington RI 02806.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents John and Catherine Nasser, his sister Nancy Lanier, his brother John "Mickey" Nasser, and his great granddaughter Stella.
