Thomas Peters, 81, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, passed away on Friday September 13, 2024 at Hope Hospice in Providence, RI, after a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer
Thomas was born June 19, 1943, in Derby, CT to Everett and Eileen (Hellyar) Peters.
He grew up in Ansonia, Connecticut and graduated from the Watkinson School in 1961, continuing with many friendships from his time there.
He attended Quinnipiac College, where he was an All-Time Letter Winner on the Men's Soccer Team. He later graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
Tom also enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and served during the Vietnam War. His work life included working for Big Brothers, Big Sisters, the American Red Cross and the American Cancer Society, where he became a National Vice President.
Tom spent a lot of time traveling and lived in many places, including Connecticut, Tennessee, New York, Florida, Louisiana, Maryland, Kentucky and Spain.He had a passion for Rowing, sports and his grandchildren. He rowed in Craftsbury, Vermont in September 2023, and previously traveled to Great Brittain to row. Tom loved watching college basketball and watching baseball with his friend Rich.
Tom made many memories with his grandchildren, who will all miss him deeply.
He is survived by his three sons and seven grandchildren. Jonah Peters and his wife Nikki, and their children Sawyer and Joslyn, Joshua Peters and his wife Emily, and their children; Tommy, Charlie and Morgan Peters, and Justin Peters and his wife Colleen and their children, Everett and Josephine. He is also survived by his sister Deborah and her children Andrew and Luke, and his sister Carol's son Kyle and his furry best friend, Lilly, who was truly his best friend in his final years. Tom is also survived by his partner, Cynthia Wilcox, of Pawtucket, RI. Their time together was filled with foreign travel, reading the New York Times on Sunday mornings, and owning a home together.
Tom is preceded in death by his sister Carol.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to The American Cancer Society. Thomas' friends and family will remember his for his kindness, his dedication to his work and his unwavering love for his family.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
His committal service will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday September 27, 2024 at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County trail in Exeter, RI.
