Bristol, Rhode Island - Tracy ?Fonze? Alphonzo Hanmer, 77, of 125 Sunrise Drive Bristol, died Friday, November 28, 2003 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI. He was the husband of Doris F. Dixon Hanmer. Born in Keene Valley, NY on Mar. 8, 1926, he was the son of the late Francis LeRoy Hanmer and the late Reeta Wells Hanmer. Mr. Hanmer had lived in Bristol since moving from Keene Valley, New York in 1997. He worked as a construction equipment operator for the State of New York DOT for 16 years before retiring in 1983. He also worked for the Town of Keene for 18 years. He was elected as the tax assesor for the Town of Keene for 10 years. He was a volunteer fireman for more than 50 years with the Keene Valley NY Fire Department, and also served as the commissioner and the custodian for the department.He was a former school board member of the Keene Central School District. He was active in church and was a former member of the Keene Valley Congregational Church, where he had served as the church moderator, a deacon, and sexton. He was also a member of the churchs choir for more than 50 years. He also performed in many Gilbert and Sullivan Operettas in Keene. He was a charter member of the Lake Placid NY Barbershop Chorus. He was also co-chair of the annual Keene Valley Rummage Sale. He worked at the bob-sled run in Lake Placid in the 1950?s.A 32nd Degree Mason, he was a member since 1948 and past Master of the F. A.M. Adirnondack Lodge No. 0602 of Elizabethtown, NY and was a member of the Lodge Council Chapter, Valley of Troy NY and of the Consistory, Valley of Albany NY of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite.Mr. Hanmer was active in Cub Scout Pack 4 and Boy Scout Troop 4 both in Keene where he had served as Master, Troop Leader, and on various scouting committees.He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Elizabethtown NY Golf Club and also loved fishing, but was first and foremost a loving family man.Locally Mr. Hanmer was a member of the United Congregational Church, Middletown where he was a member of the adult choir and was serving on the nominating committee. In addition to his wife he is survived by a son and daughter in law, Rory A. and Melissa Hanmer and grandson Noah A. Hanmer all of Bristol, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Merritt Smith Hanmer. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 7, at 2:00 PM in United Congregational Church, Valley Road At Green End Avenue, Middletown.
