Valerie Ann (Robinson) Druken, 63, of Newport passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 30, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.Valerie was born in Boston, MA, to the late Rudolph and Janice (Schroeder) Robinson on September 15, 1953.A lifelong caregiver, Valerie received her nursing degree in 1974 from the Peter Bent Brigham School of Nursing in Boston, MA. She entered the nursing profession at the Brigham Hospital as a clinical research nurse, where the majority of her work was in the bone marrow transplant unit. In 1978, she moved to Newport, RI, where she earned her B.S. at Salve Regina University and worked as a medical-surgical nurse at Newport Hospital for 15 years. Valerie furthered her education at Rhode Island College and became a Certified School Nurse Teacher, providing valuable care and assistance over the years to countless students in Exeter, Cranston, and Newport, most recently at Rogers High School. Valerie also enjoyed volunteering her spare time to the Rhode Island Medical Reserve Corps. Valerie's memory lives on with her husband Patrick of 35 years, their five daughters Glenna, Catherine, and Abbey of Newport, Bridget of Fullerton, CA, and Kelsey of Canberra, Australia, her sister Pamela Waterman of Mesa, AZ, brother Rudy Robinson, Jr. of Fall River, MA, and the many, many lives of others she has touched. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 from 4-7 pm at the Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway in Newport. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2017, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Joseph's Church, on the corner of Mann Ave and Broadway in Newport.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rogers High School, 15 Wickham Rd, Newport, RI, in memory of Valerie Druken.
