Warwick,RI - Walter Louis Carnevale, 90, of Warwick, died Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at West View Health Care Center West Warwick, RI. He was the husband of the late Elvira (Picano) Carnevale. Born in Cranston, RI on April 14, 1924, he was the son of the late Vincenzo and Angelina (Panarelli) Carnevale. Mr. Carnevale was a 1941 graduate of Cranston High School, a 1949 graduate of Providence College with a B.S. in Biology and a 1954 graduate of the URI College of Pharmacy. Walter was well known in Newport as the owner and pharmacist of Cote Pharmacy on Broadway. He was President of the Newport Serra Club for 5 years, a member of the Newport Rotary, and Past Commander of VFW Tabor Franchi Post 239, and a member of Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the National Association of Retail Pharmacists, the RI Pharmacy Association where he was a Past President, immediate Past President of the Bishop McVinney Foundation, and Past President of Parish Council at St. Barnabas Church. He also gave his time as a hospice volunteer and served on the Board of Directors for Visiting Nurse Service. He was a proud Veteran of the US Army Air Corps, landing on Normandy on D-Day serving under General Patton, and as a Surgical Technician in Northern France, Rhineland and Ardennes in the European Theater. He is survived by his children, Andrea Pitts of Myrtle Beach, SC, Vera Leonard of The Villages, FL and Middletown, RI, Janice Benevides of Surfside, SC, Avis Farmer of Braselton, GA, Catherine McLean of Perkasie, PA, Walter Carnevale of Portsmouth, RI, Richard Carnevale of Portsmouth, and David Carnevale of Portsmouth, RI, his sister Virginia Bernard of Wakefield, RI, his companion Judith Babcock of Warwick, RI, seventeen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.He was the brother of the late Nicholas, Joseph, and Vincent Carnevale, Evelyn Pastore and Edith Gallo.Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 15 from 4:00-8:00 pm in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.His funeral will take place on Tuesday, September 16 at 9:00 am from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
