Wayne Deascentis

April 8, 1946 — July 15, 2018

Wayne F. DeAscentis, 72 of Middletown, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. Wayne fought a courageous 15 month battle against Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer. He was the beloved husband of Anne (DeCosta) DeAscentis.Wayne was born on April 8, 1946, in Newport to the late Edward and Natalie (Helgeson) DeAscentis. He was a 1964 graduate of Rogers High School where he was a member of the ROTC. He was a graduate of Johnson and Wales with a degree in Business and Accounting.Wayne served 4 years in the United States Air Force. He was a Crew Chief for the T-33 at Otis Air Base and a supervisor of an aircraft maintenance crew for the F-100 Supersabre at Phan Rang Air Base, Vietnam.Prior to the service, Wayne had been employed at the Viking Mens Shop. Upon returning home to Newport, Wayne continued his lifelong career in retail sales. His next retail adventure lasted over 20 years as the Manager of the Mens and Boys Department at Leys Century Store in Newport, where some of his customers became lifelong friends who followed him to his next job at Wilsons of Wickford for the next 15 years. His most recent employment was at Bermuda Bay Clothing and the Sail Loft in Newport. He was known for his expertise in suit fittings and was able to know the correct size and style for his customers with just a glance. Wayne loved the daily interactions with his customers and co-workers.For 49 years he was married to the love of his life. Their marriage was a true love story. From their elopement to his last days, they were inseparable. They were the center of each others universe. They looked forward to their Saturday date night at Eastons Beach having their fish and chips. In his spare time , he enjoyed fishing, working in his yard, going to the beach and just living his life day to day. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He was the Ultimate Family Man.He was the loving father of Stephanie DeAscentis of Middletown and her companion Allan Mercurio (whom he considered to be like a son), Jennifer Osterhout and her husband Bradley of Wakefield, MA. He was a proud grandfather known as Papa to his three granddaughters, Emma, Madison and Audrey Osterhout. He also leaves a brother, brother-in-law, several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.Wayne will be remembered for the values that he lived by-hard work, integrity, and devotion to family. He was the perfect gentlemen and will be truly missed.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Waynes honor to Veterans of Foreign Wars Foundation, St, Jude Childrens Hospital, or Crohns Colitis Foundation.Calling hours will be held Friday, July 20, 2018 from 11:00AM to 1:00PM in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Committal Prayers and burial will follow at Trinity Cemetery, Portsmouth.
