William Walter Bennett III, 71, of Newport died Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Hope and Hospice of Rhode Island in providence, RI. Mr. Bennett III was born August 6, 1946 in Newport, RI. He is the son of the late William Walter and the late Dorothy (Stevens) Bennett Jr. He was married to Judy MacFarlane for 11years.Bill was a Vietnam veteran and a very proud Marine. He was a member of the Red Men, and also the Vasco DeGama chapter of the Portuguese American Club in Newport. He was an avid motorcycle rider and was a member of various clubs in the area. After returning from Vietnam, he began his career at J.T.'s Lumber and worked there for over 40 years, when JT's moved to their new building, he was already a permanent fixture. He was a diehard Patriots fan, even before their winning seasons. He enjoyed fishing, but when it became necessary to have a license to fish, he ended his fishing days. In his younger days, he was very involved in the Newport Little League.He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Helen Kuiee, his brother Walter Bennett and his grandson Logan Bennett.He is survived by his wife: Judy (MacFarlane) Bennett one daughter: Amanda Bennett and two sons: William Walter Bennett IV and his wife Heather of North Kingstown, RI and Donnie J Bennett and his wife Rebecca of Blakely, PA and his brother, Robin Bennett and his wife Sharon of West Palm Bay, Fla. He is also survived by his stepson, Nathan MacFarlane of Wakefield, RI, and twelve grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.Calling hours will be held on Saturday January 27, 2018 from 9am to 11am in the Hambly Funeral Home 30 Red Cross Avenue in Newport.Burial will be private.
