William E. Harrington

William E. Harrington, "Papa Bill", 88, of Portsmouth, RI, passed away peacefully February 6th. Born November 29, 1929 in Pawtucket, RI, he was the son of the late Albert E. and the late Louise (Yehle) Harrington. He married Mary Anne (Zebrasky) Harrington of Portsmouth, RI. Bill has many fond memories of growing up in the City by the Sea. He graduated from Rogers High School, Class of 1949. Mr. Harrington started his military career in the US Navy. He also served in the US Air Force from 1950-1954, stationed in Okinawa, Japan from 1952-1953. He was a service manager for 17 years at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., retiring in 1972. Bill was also a member of the VFW of Portsmouth.In addition to his parents, Bill is predeceased by his sister, Louise H. Bertholf, brother, Albert Harrington and nephew, Shaun Harrington. He is survived by his daughter Patricia A.Polselli, her husband Scott and their children Lauren, Jenna, and Kevin of Portsmouth, RI. His son William J. Harrington and his wife Thelma of Ormond Beach FL. His nieces Karen Bertholf and Karen Jan's of Ridgewood,NJ.Bill loved the sea and was an avid boater. He enjoyed going to his grandchildren's games, recitals, and competitions. In his 70's and 80's you could always find him at Food Works Restaurant helping his family and greeting all of his customers and making them feel at home.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Portsmouth Volunteer Fire Dept. Rescue Wagon Fund, P.O. Box 806, Portsmouth, RI, 02871.Services will be private per his request.
