William Hyde Salisbury, 88, died January 29, 2017 in Summerville, SC, after a long battle with prostate cancer. Mr. Salisbury is survived by his daughter, Susan and son-in-law, Ron Durand, also of Summerville, as well as two grandchildren, Eric Salisbury Durand of North Charleston, SC and Ashley Jeannette Durand of Essex, MA. Mr. Salisbury is a decorated and proud United States Navy retired Chief Boatswain's Mate. He is a veteran of WWII, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. He was the son of the late William H. Salisbury, Sr. and Bessie Bouton, and was born in Auburn, NY. He left New York at the age of 17 to pursue his boyhood dream of joining the Navy, wherein he served for twenty two years. He married the late Barbara Jean Fidler and together during his military career, they travelled extensively in the United States and the Orient. His travels brought him to forty four countries. He became a resident of Portsmouth, RI in 1967 and worked for Pearson Yachts until his retirement in 1989. In addition to his family, he leaves behind many kind and caring friends. Memorial services will be held at Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, in Portsmouth, Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 11 am. He will be interred at Trinity Cemetery, Portsmouth, RI with military Honors.
