William M. Spears

William M. Spears, 73 of Rogers Lane, Middletown, RI, died on Saturday, June 4, 2011, at Newport Hospital.He was the husband of Philliscoe Bowers Spears.Born in Martinsburg, WV on May 26, 1938, he was the son of the late William and Lucille Spears.Mr. Spears was a US Navy veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars having served for 21 years. He was later employed at the Newport Naval Base as a chef.He enjoyed playing horseshoes and listening to jazz music.In addition to his wife, he is survived by seven sons, five daughters, four brothers, three sisters, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 13, 2011, from 9-11am in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.His funeral service will be follow at 11am in the funeral home, followed by burial with military honors in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter, RI.
