Assistant Arranger

Assistant Arranger

Memorial Funeral Home | Newport & Portsmouth, Rhode Island | Full-Time

Who You Are

You're organized in a way that puts other people at ease. When a family comes to us, there are dozens of moving parts that have to come together on their behalf, and you're the person who makes that happen, making sure nothing gets missed. You find satisfaction in doing detail-oriented work with care and precision, especially when the stakes are real and a family is counting on you.

This role works closely with our licensed funeral directors, supporting arrangement conferences and taking ownership of the coordination work that follows. As you grow into the position, your involvement in the arrangement conference itself will deepen.

What You'll Do

  • Support funeral directors before, during, and after arrangement conferences
  • Coordinate with outside vendors and service providers, including clergy, musicians, florists, and printers, on behalf of families
  • Make and track calls, confirmations, and follow-ups to ensure all details are in place
  • Maintain accurate records in our funeral home management software
  • Communicate with families in a warm, clear, and professional manner
  • Anticipate what's needed next and act on it without waiting to be asked

What We're Looking For

  • Prior office or administrative experience preferred; funeral industry background is a plus but not required
  • Comfortable working alongside grieving families and approaching that work with steadiness and compassion
  • Strong follow-through with a genuine commitment to not letting things fall through the cracks
  • Calm and reliable under pressure, particularly when timelines are tight and details matter
  • Discreet and trustworthy with sensitive family information
  • Comfortable with technology and willing to learn the software systems we use
  • Someone who takes the work seriously without taking themselves too seriously

Why This Work Matters

A family planning a funeral is often doing it during or immediately following the worst days of their lives. When the coordination behind the scenes is seamless, they feel it, even if they can't name it. This role exists to make that possible.

If you're someone who takes quiet pride in doing detail work well and who wants your professional life to mean something, we'd like to hear from you. Send a resume and a brief note about why this kind of work appeals to you, we read every one.
