Licensed Funeral Director
Funeral Director/Embalmer
Memorial Funeral Home | Newport & Portsmouth, Rhode Island| Full-Time
Compensation based on experience
If you've ever wondered what better support, a reasonable schedule, and leadership that genuinely respects your time could look like, we'd welcome a conversation.
We know there is no single right way to build a career in funeral service. Some people are looking for a long-term, full-time home. Others still love the work but want a schedule that leaves room for the rest of their life. We're open to both.
This is not a clock-in, clock-out profession. It's also not one that should ask you to disappear into the work. Funeral service lives somewhere in between, and we want to work with people who have found, or are looking for, a healthier footing there.
Who We’re Looking For
- Take pride in doing things right, even when no one is watching
- Notice what's incomplete and feel compelled to address it, not simply because they were asked, but because that's how they work
- Lead with empathy, communicate clearly, and navigate difficult moments with grace
- Value accountability and follow-through
- Want to be part of a team that genuinely likes working together
- Understand that excellent funeral service is built on both compassion and attention to detail
This opportunity is for a licensed funeral director/embalmer who wants to be meaningfully involved in serving families from beginning to end.

Part-Time Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer
Part-time opportunities | Compensation based on experience
Maybe you still love funeral service but no longer want your entire life built around it.
Maybe you’re semi-retired and miss the families, the services, and the sense of purpose—but not the unpredictable schedule.
Maybe you stepped away from full-time funeral service and would consider returning if the right opportunity existed.
Or maybe you simply want meaningful work on a schedule that makes sense for your life.
We’d like to talk.
Our part-time opportunities are designed for licensed funeral directors who want to stay connected to the profession without committing to a traditional full-time role.
Depending on Your Experience and Availability, You May:
- Meet with families and make funeral arrangements
- Embalm and prepare decedents
- Direct funeral, memorial, and graveside services
- Assist with visitations and services
- Coordinate with clergy, cemeteries, and community partners
- Support documentation and case follow-through
- Provide licensed coverage where your experience is most valuable
- Work a consistent part-time schedule or discuss other scheduling possibilities based on mutual needs
We are especially interested in experienced funeral directors who bring sound judgment, professionalism, empathy, and the ability to step into a service environment with confidence.
You do not need to be looking for another all-consuming role to still have something valuable to offer funeral service.
What Matters Here
Whether you’re considering full-time or part-time work, we’re looking for people who care about the details because the details matter to families.
This isn’t the place for “good enough.” We value people who notice what needs attention, take ownership of their work, support the people around them, and follow through.
That may sound like a lot to ask. But if purpose-driven work, a collaborative team, and the satisfaction of doing something well matter to you, we hope you’ll reach out.
This is work you can feel proud of, from start to finish.
No pressure. Just a conversation.
