Patricia M. (Gleason) Murgo

February 3, 1957 ~ September 9, 2017 (age 60)
Patricia Marie Gleason Murgo, age 60, of Middletown, RI, died Saturday, September 9, 2017, at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center of Providence, RI, with family by her side. She made a peaceful transition while the sun was shining and a sprinkle of rain was falling.

Patricia was born February 3, 1957 in Newport, RI, the daughter of the late Daniel A. Gleason, Jr., and Helen O. (Mason) Gleason.

She is survived by her longtime companion, Frank Finegan of Middletown, RI. Pat was predeceased by her brother, Stephen J. Gleason and is survived by three siblings, Elizabeth Casey of Wakefield, RI, Mary Gleason and husband Eddie Shaffell of Middletown, RI, David Gleason and wife Karen of Portsmouth, RI, and one sister-in-law, Sue Gleason of Middletown, RI.

Pat loved children and among her proudest accomplishments was raising her family. Her children include two stepdaughters, Tania Ruiz of Burbank, CA, Nicole Johnson and husband Tim of Narragansett, RI, and four children, Jessica M. Purcell and husband Shawn of Richmond, RI, Cecilia A. Murgo, John D. Murgo, and Robert J. Murgo, Jr. of Newport, RI. She was grandmother (g-ma) to eight grandsons with a ninth to be born this week. She also leaves behind her nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Pat recently retired from the Newport School Department after working as a custodian for 20 years. She was known by many as down-to-earth, and kind hearted with a gentle disposition. She spoke softly but with wisdom and let other people be themselves without judgement. Some of her hobbies included crossword puzzles, dancing, ice skating and taking long drives with Frank. Despite a terminal cancer diagnosis, Pat still found ways to enjoy her days with new interests such as coloring, playing Words with Friends, and keeping up with the Real Housewives. She fought hard through her illness so that she could spend quality time with the people she loved, who were in turn grateful for the meals, laughter and dance parties they shared together.

A memorial service to celebrate Pat's life will be held on Sunday, October 8th at the Hambly House at 30 Red Cross Avenue in Newport, RI, with visitation from 10-11am and a service starting at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care of Rhode Island, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904, in hopes that others will be able to receive the same level of care, consideration and respect that Pat and her family received.
